xxxxxxxxxxxx

The traveler with tie.

You leave your house, leave your country, travel for thousands of miles, but you insist on wearing that ridiculous tie. You wear it in the desert, you wear it on the beach and on the mountain tops, you lovingly send it to dry clean. It’s your ground rod, your last vestige of dignity.

The tourist

The she-tourist has abandoned that ridiculous condition to become, little by little and without intention, a traveler. Today she lost her sunscreen; yesterday she fell into a puddle of mud. Her looks have begun to deteriorate and she doesn’t seem to care.

MAN AND MACHINE

How can this be? “This is not possible,” he said, still looking at the photos. “It is not possible,” he repeated again and again, walked around the whole room, grabbed his hair, touched his forehead, “it cannot be!” The digital camera showed him photographs which it couldn’t possibly have registered, instead of those which it should have registered, those for which it was designed. “But how is it possible,” repeated the man: the camera had registered photos of moments before the actual taking of any photo. He had realized something strange going on, he suspected already; his camera had registered pictures of a little over 60 seconds before he had pressed the button. It couldn’t be, there was no explanation. As far as he knew technology had not advanced enough to be able to turn back time. It was not possible that when he pressed the button to take the picture of the current moment, the camera had gone back in time and photographed as present the past, the same with or without a flash. “It is not possible in any way,” said the man. But this fact undermined his confidence in himself, in his perception of time. He wondered if he was getting ahead of the facts, if he was jumping ahead to the future moment, if he was going crazy. He was sure of one thing: only one could be right, the camera or him. “What is more likely,” wondered the man, “that a machine so faithful to reality as a camera fails or that a poor mortal like me fails.” He was unable to give one step in safety again.

MC GUEVARA OR CHE DONALD

What a grief I felt at that party in an uppity house in Bogotá, when a majority came against me, when those nasty drunks fought to defend president Uribe and praise the Colombian army, what a grief when my look obviated them and stopped at the photo of the Che hanging behind their heads.

MC GUEVARA O CHE DONALD

CLEANLINESS

The cat has choked on a ball of hairs. He had swallowed it cleaning himself, but the cat is smart and doesn’t forget its goal: cleanliness. That’s why after a good effort he finally expels the ball, and then feels clean again, and happy. Each time he wants to be clean, he will have to swallow a little of his own dirt to spit it later.

DORTMUND

The little woman of this story lived in the outskirts of Dortmund in a humble house, a house without taste, a totally rigid and ugly block. It was like a rectangle divided in two: in the first division was the habitable part of the house; the second one was soil, black and dull soil. The little woman had taken upon herself to grow a garden. All the advice from everyone she knew, which amounted to one thing, was of no avail: Don’t plant anything, nothing is going to grow here, we live in Dortmund. But the wish of eating a fresh and crunchy vegetable overpowered her, and the little woman grew her garden. The desire to feel in her mouth the freshness and the greenness lost a long time ago in Dortmund became stronger and stronger every day, until it was unbearable. That’s why she planted with all her effort seeds brought from other lands: she hoped that life would prove mightier and would find its way in that world of smoke and soot. Maybe it could even counteract the pollution a little and give them fresh air. Very judiciously she watered the land, very judiciously she ploughed, but nothing ever sprouted. She was in Dortmund.

DORTMUND

OBJECTS

This writing has no object, someone could object to me, but then it would stop being a writing without object, and what object could have that objection? Objectively talking, this writing is nothing else than the object of my distraction. Now, objectifying the question, what can be the object of going any further? Please, do tell, without making me the object of your mockery.
